How to Maintain Your Window Film After Installation

Window tinting comes with lots of amazing benefits. Additionally, it is low maintenance too!

Knowing how to properly care for your window film will let you enjoy the security, UV protection, and glare reduction benefits for years to come.

There are a few things you should remember in taking care of your newly installed window film to keep its original look.

Allow to Cure

Immediately after the installation of your window film, you might notice that it looks hazy. This only means that there is still moisture left under the film and will disappear after a few days. You may also see a small amount of liquid trapped behind the film or bubbles. This is normal and must be left alone until the end of the curing period.

You should allow your window fil, to cure for at least 30 days before cleaning it. This allows the time needed to let the adhesives set.

Tape Removal

The newly installed window film contains adhesive tape. To remove this, you need to slowly and carefully peel it away. For adhesive residue, apply alcohol to a clean cloth and rub it off. For stubborn adhesive residue, you can use acetone or methyl ethyl ketone and rub it off carefully using a clean cloth.

Use the Right Tools and Cleaning Products

Before you start cleaning your window tints, you need to have the right tools and cleaning products. You should use an ammonia-free cleaner. This can lead to discoloration and damage since ammonia is an abrasive cleaner.

If unable to find an ammonia-free cleaner, you can use plain mild soap and warm water. You can also use a sponge or squeegee to prevent scratches and scuffs.

You can also make your very own DIY mild cleaner by using distilled water, baby soap, and two tablespoons of rubbing alcohol.

Interior Window Cleaning

Make sure that you’re using soft clothes when cleaning your window film. Avoid using paper towels because they are abrasive on a micro-level. You may not notice any damage after using a paper towel, but over time your window fill may appear dull due to micro scratches.

Also, don’t clean your tinder windows in direct sunlight. This will make the cleaner dry faster.

We recommend using two microfibre cloths. One for drying and one for cleaning. Only use distilled water when cleaning because hard water can leave white spots on your window.

Polishing Your Window Film

Polishing should be done occasionally. Although it is not really necessary to polish to extend the life of your film, it gives a glossy finish and makes it appear brand new. When polishing interior films, use silicone-based polish. This also helps in preventing scratches and burnishes over time.

Conclusion

Taking care of your tinted window is important for you to enjoy its benefits for years to come!
